Historical Context

This battalion represents Prussian elite grenadier companies formed into converged grenadier battalions following traditional European practice. These formations concentrated the tallest, strongest, and most experienced men from multiple parent regiments into specialised assault units. 

Following Scharnhorst's reforms, Prussian grenadiers maintained their elite status while adopting more flexible tactics than their rigid 18th-century predecessors. These battalions led assaults, held critical defensive positions, and provided the offensive punch needed to break enemy formations. The Krümper system ensured a steady supply of trained veterans for grenadier service, as only experienced soldiers were selected for these elite companies.

From Leipzig's brutal street fighting to Waterloo's final assault on the French positions, Prussian grenadiers proved their worth repeatedly.
