Historical Context

This battalion represents Prussian Reserve Infantry during the Wars of Liberation. These troops embodied Scharnhorst's Krümper system in action as they were men who had rotated through active service and returned to civilian life, only to be recalled when Prussia rose against Napoleon in 1813. The simplified uniform reflected both wartime supply challenges and the rapid expansion of Prussia's army from treaty-limited peacetime strength to full mobilisation.

From the spring campaign of 1813 through Waterloo, Reserve Infantry battalions filled crucial roles in Prussia's expanded armies. They garrisoned fortresses, guarded supply lines, and reinforced field armies - enabling Prussia to field forces far larger than its peacetime establishment suggested possible.
