This battalion represents elite Austrian German grenadier companies formed into converged grenadier battalions during the tumultuous Revolutionary. German grenadiers were selected from the tallest and strongest men in their parent regiments, marked by distinctive bearskin caps that made them appear even more imposing.
These formations concentrated the best assault troops for crucial operations, following traditional European practice of detaching grenadier companies and combining them into specialized battalions.
