Historical Context
This battalion represents Saxon grenadier companies formed into a converged grenadier battalion during the twilight of Napoleon's reign. Saxony, allied to France through the Confederation of the Rhine, contributed forces to Napoleon's armies even as the Emperor's fortunes declined after the disastrous invasion of Russian in 1812. It wasn't until the final day of Leipzig in 1813 did these forces become part of the Allied contingents that would end French power in Central Europe for good.
