Historical Context
This regiment represents the Saxon Kurassier von Zastrow - elite heavy cavalry of Saxony serving within the Confederation of the Rhine. These cuirassiers in steel breastplates represented the professional cavalry tradition of the German states, their distinctive uniforms marking them as elite shock troops within Saxon forces integrated into French operations.

Saxon cuirassiers fought alongside French forces from 1812 onward, their armoured cavalry tactics providing disciplined shock power for imperial campaigns. Despite their elite status and professional training, these regiments ultimately shared the fate of all Saxon forces - caught between the collapsing French alliance and the rising coalition armies that destroyed the Confederation of the Rhine in 1813.
